Hager Group pays tribute to employees playing an active role in their professional development

Since 2010, 620 Hager Group employees have graduated from work-related study or training programmes in France, with qualifications ranging from vocational baccalaureates to BTS technical diplomas, master’s degrees, engineering school diplomas and doctorates. They took advantage of the opportunity to undergo training in order to learn a new profession, prepare for a new stage in their career or demonstrate a certain level of competence. Since Hager Group has a policy of improving all its staff’s employability through ongoing training, it decided to honour employees who play an active role in their own professional development.

A ceremony that took place on 21st November at the Hager Forum in Obernai allowed the company to pay tribute to the effort and investment made by these recently qualified employees. The event also allowed Hager Group to demonstrate that it recognises the unwavering commitment to this process of continuing development shown by all the in-house partners involved, including mentors, managers, social partners and HR, as well as by external partners such as the UIMM (Union of Metallurgy Industries), the ADEFIM (a metallurgy industry training centre that funded and carried out administration for training courses), local training bodies such as GRETA and the AFPI for the CQPM metallurgy certificate, and local schools and universities. The latter include the EM Strasbourg Business School for the master’s in HR, and the INSA Strasbourg for the degree in Mechanical Engineering. In addition, national institutions were also involved, such as the ENSIL in Limoges for the degree in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering.

For CEO Daniel Hager, this event symbolised Hager Group’s ambition and commitment as an employer to ensuring that the company keeps Growing Together: “If we want to achieve our aim of becoming a leading player in tomorrow’s electrical sector, generating three billion euros in turnover and bringing together 20,000 employees, we need the best specialists. We must continually develop our employees’ skills. Nowadays, more than ever, these men and women are the key to our success.”

Franck Houdebert, Director of Human Resources, explained Hager Group’s HR policy regarding skills development: “The key to performing and to developing our activities in a world that is speeding up is, more than ever, linked to developing our teams’ skills and the skills of every one of us. Professional training and learning are an investment in the future. For that reason, we have, for years, dedicated almost 4 per cent of the salary cost to ongoing training for the 3,400 employees of Hager Group in France. The most important thing is to share our economic challenges and help every employee take an active role in their own development.”

Newly qualified employees in 2017 (France) – key figures:

  • 43 permanent employees
  • 34 trainees and people on work-study contracts who ended up being hired
  • Aged between 20 and 58
  • Length of service: from less than 1 year to 39 years! In total, 32 people had been with Hager Group for more than 10 years.
  • 54% women
  • A range of courses, from the CQPM metallurgy certificate right up to doctorate level, with a strong focus on industry-relevant certificates and diplomas (51)
