Blieskastel, 12th April 2018

Hager Group sponsors the event L’Industrie Magnifique (Magnificent Industry) from 3rd to 13th May in Strasbourg

Hager Group is one of the sponsors of L’Industrie Magnifique: from 3rd to 13th May, the company will exhibit Stephan Balkenhol’s sculpture Mann auf Stier (Man on Bull) at Place d’Austerlitz, Strasbourg. The four-ton bronze statue since summer 2016 is housed in the atrium of Hager Forum at the Obernai site.

In addition to other industrial companies, artists and institutions in the region, Hager Group participates in the project "L'Industrie Magnifique". As a major player in the local economy, the company wanted to contribute to this project, in order raise interest in industry and its know-how in a different way amongst the general public.

A series of events are also programmed over the ten days; Hager Group employees, partners and the general public are all very welcome to attend. The events include a design café with Erwin Van Handenhoven (Director of the Hager Group Design Studio), a mathematics workshop with secondary-school pupils and a lecture about innovation. Hager Group is also planning a painting workshop for children and an opportunity for the visually impaired to discover Mann auf Stier. The exhibition and all events are free of charge.

“Hager Group is an international company with the ambition to transform. L’Industrie Magnifique is very much in keeping with our approach: listening to our customers and the people around us so that we can build new technologies and tomorrow’s world. Getting involved in the project was an obvious choice for us. It allows us to share our passion, our diversity and our vision for the future with a wider audience”, comments Daniel Hager CEO.

About the sculpture Mann auf Stier
Mann auf Stier was created by the German sculptor Stephan Balkenhol for Hager Group. Since 2016, it has been on display in Obernai, one of the group’s three industrial sites in Alsace. The bronze sculpture is 3 metres long and 2.5 metres high. It weighs almost 4 tonnes. The bull looks towards the future, symbolising the company’s intention to grow. This growth must be sustainable, and our transformation is both technological and cultural. The power of the bull contrasts with the calm demeanour of the man astride, who personifies leadership. By looking in a different direction to the bull, he embodies a group that never loses sight of its past or its values: courage, authenticity and integrity.

About the artist Stephan Balkenhol
Stephan Balkenhol was born in Germany in 1957. He lives and works in Kassel, Karlsruhe, Berlin and Meisenthal in the Moselle. He studied at the Hamburg School of Fine Arts and very quickly became well known for reintroducing figurative art into sculpture. His style focuses on the representation of a naive, subdued, expressionless figure. In the 1990s, he introduced animals into his repertoire. The traces of imperfection in his sculptures, which are often carved from wood, are one of the hallmarks of his work.

About L’Industrie Magnifique
From 3rd to 13th May, the city squares of Strasbourg will display 24 works of art to the general public. The exhibition brings together manufacturers, artists and public bodies with the aim of promoting and developing artistic work, the culture of innovation and the region’s industrial legacy. Each art work is the result of close cooperation between a local company and a selected artist. During the ten days, a large number of events, lectures and workshops will also take place.
