Jonas Brechtel receives the 2017 GKV sponsorship award

Jonas Brechtel has been named one of Germany’s top ten graduates from the apprenticeship programme for process technicians in plastic and rubber technology. The former apprentice at Tehalit GmbH was awarded the sponsorship prize from the German Plastic Processing Industry Association (Gesamtverband Kunststoffverarbeitende Industrie e.V. – GKV) on July 25th, 2017, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the final year of his course, 2016. The certificate was presented to him in the offices of Tehalit GmbH by Ralf Olsen, the Executive Director of Pro-K – the German Industrial Association for Semi-Finished Products and Consumer Products made of Plastics (pro-K Industrieverband Halbzeuge und Konsumprodukte aus Kunststoff e.V.), who is also responsible for educational policy and vocational training at the GVK. Alongside Jonas Brechtel, awards were also presented to the training company Tehalit and the Pirmasens vocational school for their commitment to vocational training.

The GVK has set itself the mission of supporting successful training programmes and creating incentives for trainees. The sponsorship award, with a total of 5,000 euros in prize money, supports dedicated up-and-coming talent as well as training companies and vocational colleges. The GKV has been awarding its sponsorship prize to Germany’s top ten graduates from the apprenticeship programme for process technicians in plastic and rubber technology on an annual basis since 2001.

As well as receiving the certificate and the prize money, the graduates also win an annual subscription to a trade journal (“Kunststoffe”) and are accepted into an elite club for top talent known as “Club der Besten”.

Process technicians in plastic and rubber technology produce moulded articles and components or multi-layered parts out of rubber, as well as semi-finished products, fibre composites or synthetic windows from polymer materials. This work involves operating or controlling largely automated machines and systems. Upon finishing their apprenticeship, graduates have the option to embark on advanced further training. Possible career progressions range from plastics technicians through to plastics engineers.
