Akashi Kaikyō Bridge / Kobe, Japan

Spanning 1,991 meters, the Akashi Kaikyō bridge connects the Japanese main island of Honshu with Awaji island and is the longest suspension bridge in the world. Before its construction, the treacherous Akashi strait could only be traversed by ship, which caused catastrophic accidents time and again. The Akashi Kaikyō bridge facilitates trade and interaction, as well as guaranteeing the safety of travellers.
