Created by star architect Norman Foster and designer Thomas Heatherwick, the Bund Finance Center (BFC) is a spectacular new building on Shanghai’s most famous street. The 426,000-square metre construction houses offices, retail space, a cultural centre and a hotel. Its moveable facade comprises a veil of vertically mounted steel pipes, which are moved around the building by motors for several hours every day. They work like a gigantic glockenspiel, producing soft music. Both the public areas and the offices were fitted with Hager switches.
