E3/DC continues the "Solar Charge Challenge" competition 2021-2022

The competition is designed to show how much CO2 can be saved by charging EV with renewable energy using E3/DC intelligent home energy systems.

In 2020, our E3/DC brand has grown to install around 500 wall boxes each month. Nearly one out of three home energy systems came with its own vehicle charging station last year. Using solar power can reduce the CO2 footprint of an electric vehicle by around 50%, producing less than 50mg CO2 per kilometre travelled.

How much solar kilometres can you travel?
Keen to advance the technology and hoping to create multipliers in the market, E3/DC started a scheme in 2020 which proved very popular with commercial clients and private customers in equal measure. Any E3/DC customer can take part in the challenge, which sees E3/DC measuring the solar energy used to fuel the EV over the course of one year.

A brand-new Volkswagen ID.3 free to use for two years
Those who racked up most solar-powered kilometres travelled are rewarded with a brand-new Volkswagen ID.3 which they can use for two years. The five most successful participants of the 2020 challenge were handed their new EVs at the Volkswagen Gläserne Manufaktur in Dresden at the end of June this year. On top of this, 29 of the most dedicated commercial partners, who really went out on a limb to promote the E3/DC intelligent charging system to their customers, were also rewarded with two years of ID.3 use.

Pressing on with innovation
Within the competition, a total of 20 ID.3s will be given away as trophies to private customers: ten at the end of this year, and another ten at the end of 2022. E3/DC CEO Dr. Andreas Piepenbrink is confident that together with their dedicated partners, E3/DC will continue to be a groundbreaking pioneer in solar electromobility. Not least because the company is already conducting the first field trials in what is thought to be the future of sustainable living and mobility: bidirectional charging.
