Whoever opts for logistics training at the vocational training centre of the CJD Homburg/Saar, learns his trade under real-time conditions. Hager Group provides the trainees with two halls on the old Ensheimer factory site and this gives a further example of sustainability at Hager Group: “E3”. The first seven graduates recently completed their training – with excellent results.
The logistics industry has enjoyed an above-average growth in recent years. This is why the vocational training centre of the CJD Homburg/Saar introduced two new trainings: “warehouseman” and “warehouse logistics specialist”. The experience shows that both jobs can be well performed by trainees with physical or psychological limitations.
The CJD could not offer practice rooms for the daily activities of the prospective warehousemen. This is where Hager Group jumped in and provided the trainees of the vocational training centre with two warehouses on premises in Saarbrücken Ensheim. There they now have the ability to work independently. Since the warehouse does not only simulate flows of goods, the trainees, under the supervision of their instructors, supply products for wholesale orders and contribute therefore to help the smooth running of material flow in the factory in Blieskastel.
The cooperation between the CJD and Hager Group for the training of warehousemen and warehouse logistics specialists reflects entirely sustainability at Hager Group (Ethics, Environment, Energy): “E3” is the expression of a corporate identity that combines closely the economic success of the company with the active involvement of its employees.
“If we can fulfil our corporate social responsibility in a win win situation with all partners, that’s great”, says Ulrich Holzer, director at Hager Group, who supervises the project from the start together with Franz Maßfelder, manager of operational logistics in Blieskastel. In practical terms, in the case of the CJD, “E3” means that Hager Group can make a contribution to young people whose first time on the job market is traditionally difficult, by making it possible to access practice-oriented training and thus improve on a sustainable basis the chances of these young people for their 1st job experience. The CJD can in turn offer a training environment to its apprentices that offers more than just a glimpse into real merchandise management. The collaboration also creates a workplace model that is socially and equally efficient. “If one has what the other one needs, that makes the collaboration particularly satisfying”, says Birgit Seggedi, who is responsible for the logistics of Hager Group in Germany and who is equally enthusiastic about the project.
The first results of the collaboration between the CJD and Hager Group prove that the project is successful. From the seven apprentices who completed their training in the summer, one ended with a “Good” and the remaining six obtained a “Very good” mention. The training managers of the CJD attribute these above-average good results to the realism of the training. The CJD and the Hager Group now plan to intensify their collaboration.
The CJD Homburg/Saar GmbH – Youth Vocational Training Centre – one of the 52 vocational training centres (the only one in Saarland) is an organisation for vocational and social rehabilitation. They welcome more than 300 young men with physical, psychological or multiple handicaps and give them initial training in recognised professions. They depend therefore on additional funding and support in order to be able to reach the training maturity that they desire and thus their training goal. The vocational training centres make a significant contribution to the integration of disabled people in the workforce.
