When we develop a product, we analyse every aspect of its life cycle. This means starting with the initial product idea, then moving on to function and application before ending with life-cycle management, making sure there is a noticeable environmental and commercial improvement. Company-trained ‘eco-relays ensure that aspects pertaining to the environment and resource conservation are taken into consideration throughout the entire development and production planning process.
The effect of this type of holistic approach can be seen and provide advantages for our customers, for instance, in the development of an alarm from our Diagral brand range. Compared to its predecessor, the control unit weighs just 2.1 kilograms, thus saving 900 grams in materials. Instead of using 30 batteries over its life-span, it will work non-stop for ten years using just nine batteries. Furthermore, our developers have managed to reduce its power consumption by 21 per cent. In other words: smart design is worthwhile for both the user and the environment.
Customers can gain a detailed insight into a product's environmental efficiency by looking at its PEP ("Product Environmental Profile") that we provide. The PEP is a document that can communicate simply and transparently all the information on the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle. In the future, each new Hager Group product will have its own PEP.
