Almost 80 children from three SOS Children’s Villages were recently given the chance to discover Europe’s best theme park: Europa-Park. Since 2011 Hager Group donates to SOS Children's Villages International the budget previously allocated to gifts for its annual conference participants.
On 20th October almost 80 youngsters aged 3 to 18 and their educators set off from their respective villages in Obernai, Merzig and Eisenberg for Rust, Germany. After having dinner and spending a rather short night sleeping in teepees at the park’s Camp Resort, the participants headed for Europa-Park’s attractions the next day.
An exciting programme awaited them: the opportunity among other things to explore the park’s newest themed area - Ireland and hurtle along at more than 130 km/h on two of the park’s different roller coasters and even meet the park’s mascot, Euromaus.
“Since we are a family company, the notion of family and the social roots it represents is particularly close to our hearts; as such we support SOS Children's Villages International. The Villages offer these youngsters a family environment and the opportunity to have a better life,” explained Daniel Hager.
The three villages were selected for their proximity to three Hager Group sites; the SOS Children’s Villages in Germany are in Merzig and Eisenberg and Obernai for France.
The Mack family, founders and owners of Europa-Park, also wanted to support this initiative by providing tickets for the children from these SOS Children's Villages.
The youngsters were in great spirits and had clearly had a fantastic day. “We had a great time. You only have to look at the children’s faces to see how happy they are,” said Ariane Marchlewitz, one of the chaperones from Merzig. “It was the best day of my life,” declared 11-year-old Matthias, who lives in the Eisenberg village. “I’d like to thank Hager Group for our day at Europa-Park and especially for the teepees,” added 14-year-old Gwendoline, from the Obernai village.
