65 electric vehicle teams prove that zero emissions from Germany through France to Switzerland with over 1,800 kilometres driven in over 8 days for the Wave Trophy 2016 is possible.
Benoît and Marie Kayser and the other participants in the WAVE (World Advanced Vehicle Expedition) Trophy revved up on 10th June; they covered over 300 kilometres per day from Bremerhaven on the German North Sea coast to the final e-stop in Bernex Switzerland. Some of the e-stop offs included a school in Heinsberg where our e-couple presented their LEAF to the children, an electric scooter producer in Remagen, a circuit in the Hockenheimring, a rainy get together in Sélestat on the Alsatian wine route and the highlight the stop off at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
Despite all the rain, the WAVE continued to roll and Benoît and Marie Kayser successfully arrived at destination with their Nissan LEAF during the afternoon of 18th June at Liestal, near Bâle in Switzerland. All participants came to port by the end of the evening where they were greeted with an arrival meal. The three first arrivers were awarded a token prize; the real reward for the drivers was having participated.
On arrival Marie and Benoît commented that, “…we are very happy to have been able to participate yet again in this extraordinary WAVE Trophy event. It was enriching and we met many interesting people on our route from the participants who are passionate about electric vehicles to the supporters who waved us on in spite of the bad weather, particularly in Alsace. We hope our generation will think about the advantages of driving with an electrical vehicle and that our visits to the different schools during the road trip will encourage future generations to find sustainable solutions. A big thank you to our sponsor!”
