Relationship status: complicated

Franco-German relations have never been easy; however, they have over recent decades, blossomed into somewhat of a friendship. As such and in time for the Frankfurt Book Fair, where this year’s guest country was indeed France, a collection of essays has been published in which 30 prominent figures such as the EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Minister President of Saarland Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer present their thoughts on the relationship’s current status. Daniel Hager, CEO of Hager Group and Executive Committee of the German-French Chamber of Industry and Commerce is one of the contributors. (Click here for the article (PDF, 224 KB)).

CEO of a family-owned company that has grown and developed against the backdrop of Franco-German history, Daniel Hager’s essay includes his own explanation as to why the status and mindset of working across borders may be profitable in our globalised world. He also discusses why now, given the two countries’ centuries-old amour fou, would be the right time to start a new chapter. “To have a humorous outlook on the differences between the French and Germans and to view these differences as valuable and profitable is something that can be very useful if you want to reach people who see the world differently,” comments Daniel Hager.
