The Saxenburgh Medical Centre in Hardenberg was completed at the end of March. The new hospital is to replace the current Röpcke-Zweers Ziekenhuis hospital. This hospital was built in 1969 and no longer meets today's requirements. Client Saxenburgh Group has chosen for a new compact and sustainable building. Moreover, the new medical centre is 30% smaller than the old hospital but much more patient friendly. Part of the outpatient clinics will remain in the old building, as well as the storage for ambulances, the family chalet, psychiatry and the energy house.
IAA Architects from Enschede designed the new hospital. Dura Vermeer and Goossen Te Pas Bouw signed for the construction, while HOMIJ Technische Installaties is responsible for all building installations - from the climate control installations to the energy supply, access control, data and security installations and including the measuring and control technology. "All installations in the building are focused on energy saving and energy reuse," says Hennie van Hunen, the technical inspector at HOMIJ Technische Installaties. "For the heating of the hospital, we have installed a traditional installation with radiators. We opted for a low-temperature range with temperatures up to 55°C, which means that the rooms can be air-conditioned more evenly, consistently and environmentally friendly than with a 'traditional' central heating installation. Fourteen air handling units on the roof provide the hospital with sufficient fresh air".
A 10kV connection has been made on the site for energy distribution. "We have installed two transformers in the new building," says Van Hunen. "In addition, a cable has been laid to the old energy house, where a third transformer has been installed. We disconnected the existing emergency power generator in the power station from the old building, maintained it, tested it and connected it to the new installation. A temporary emergency power generator keeps the old building in operation". Hager – as one of HOMIJ’s partners – was asked to deliver the main distribution boards that have been installed in both the energy house and the new building. "The challenge of this project was the distance between the existing energy house and the new building, which are more than 300 meters apart," says Daniel Leermann, project managerat Hager Netherlands. "To ensure an optimal connection between the two buildings, we advised Unimes main distributors with an automated and integrated PLC control, which was were built and programmed in-house. The distribution units communicate via a fibre optic cable. In the unlikely event that this cable is broken, all circuits are automatically 'frozen', which means that failure is out of the question".
"The PLC control not only provides an optimal connection, but also an excellent preference circuit," says Van Hunen. "In the unlikely event of a power outage at the Saxenburgh Medical Centre, the PLC control ensures that the emergency power generator starts up within 15 seconds and all crucial installations remain live. Think, for example, the OR rooms, the access control systems and the preferred, green sockets in the patient rooms".
The main distributor for the new building has been installed in the technical room on the ground floor. "Due to the limited space, we designed and installed this main distributor in a U-shape," says Leermann. "On the upper floors, 19 Univers subdistributon boards from Hager were installed, which were built by our panel building partner, PS Nederland. The distributon boards were also equipped with a preferred and non-preferred part and are controlled from the main energy distributon system. In addition, the distributon boards are equipped with a Hager KNX control, which was configured by HOMIJ Technische Installaties. The KNX control not only enables excellent lighting control, but also ensures that non-preferred installations are restarted when the mains voltage returns".
Before the main distributon system left Hager's Service & Competence Centre in Coevorden, it underwent a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), which also included HOMIJ Technical Installations and the technical department of the Saxenburgh Medical Centre. "After installation, a Site Acceptance Test (SAT) of the emergency power generator and an Integral Site Acceptance Test (ISAT) of the complete power supply were carried out, simulating all possible malfunctions and checking the operation of the preferred installations," says Van Hunen. "Subsequently, all installations were put into operation”.
Three days before the ISAT, HOMIJ Technische Installaties decided to add another piece of maintenance data to the control software, allowing all transformer installations to be switched off and maintenance to be carried out at the push of a button. "Hager has taken up this additional work very energetically. Moreover, all tests have been carried out without any problems. An excellent performance from Hager's project team, which deserves a big compliment for this".
