Selection process

Selection process and contacts

Anyone applying for an apprenticeship, partnerships and work-study courses or a work placement for technical school students undergoes a selection process at the relevant site. During this selection process, we aim to find out which applicant best meets our expectations.

Our selection process usually commences each October with the publication of the planned list of apprenticeships, degree courses and technical school placements for the subsequent year. The selection process involves the following stages:

1. Pre-selection
The pre-selection process is carried out on the basis of the applications submitted. Various criteria (average grades, quality of the application documents, pre-qualification, involvement in social activities, etc.) are used to narrow down the pool of applicants.


2. Vocational aptitude test
Following the pre-selection stage, the remaining applicants are invited to attend an approximately 2.5-hour job-specific aptitude test. This is a written test to randomly ascertain performance and skills in relation to the requirements profile under comparable conditions, the aim being to select applicants who best meet the main selection criteria. Vocational aptitude tests consist of the following components:

  • General knowledge
  • Job-specific mathematical knowledge
  • Spatial thinking and basic technical understanding
  • Linguistic understanding and expression
  • Logic and precision
  • English skills
  • Pace of working


3. Interview
Those applicants who have passed the aptitude test are invited to an interview. This is conducted as an individual or group interview and aims to find out more about applicants’ suitability for the job in question.

We also want to gain insights into applicants’ personalities, motivation and behaviour.
