Summer tour: Minister Bachmann visits Hager Group in Blieskastel during the summer action week for employees’ children

On 4th September, the summer tour of Saarland’s Family Minister Monika Bachmann took her to Hager Group’s headquarters in Blieskastel. This week, employees’ children could participate in Hager MiKids 2015: a programme full of animations giving them the opportunity to spend five fun and adventure-filled days at the Aqvital leisure centre of Germany’s Christian Association of Youth Villages (CJD).

Hager Group’s Care Management department put together a diverse programme of events including water games, woodworking and electrical workshops. CJD staff and trainees joined a group of Hager Group retirees and employees to provide on-site support for the participating children, who were aged between six and twelve. Family-owned Hager Group has been offering the summer camp since 2010, in cooperation with CJD since 2013.

On the last day of the camp, the children went to Hager Group’s Blieskastel headquarters. The worldwide group with 11,400 employees is and remains a family-owned and run company in the third generation.

They visited their parents at their workplace and were given a guided tour of the factory together with Minister Bachmann.

“The MiKids project takes some of the pressure off employees and is a great way to build team and community spirit within Hager Group. The children get an insight into what their parents do at work and develop an interest in the company itself,” explained Petra Schreiner from Care Management at Hager Group . Family Minister Bachmann agreed that the camp was a superb idea. “A family-centred corporate culture gives women and men alike the chance to earn an adequate income while meeting their family obligations,” she commented. “Measures to improve the balance between family life and work are always a way to secure families’ ability to support themselves and maintain a good quality of life for mothers as well as fathers.”
