Anyone born in Germany today will have a life expectancy that is almost 30 years higher than their ancestors born 100 years ago. As the number of older people rises, so obviously does the number of people in need of nursing care, most of whom would like to continue living at home in spite of their poor health. We make it possible for them to do so with so-called Ambient Assisted Living technologies, which we are currently hard at work on.
This business segment is still in its infancy; however it is clear that it is developing very quickly. One example is our product “my.sens”, an easy-to-install, user-friendly sensor system that registers unusual deviations from a person’s daily routine and, if necessary, automatically alerts their relatives or other representatives or care services. Thanks to my.sens, there is no longer the worry of being stranded at home in an emergency situation for a long time without help.
We have similar solutions that are being used to make everyday life easier for people dependent on care, their families and their carers. In the future we will extend the features and possible applications of these solutions and create smart links with existing building technologies such as smoke alarms. By networking these systems with social media platforms we will also help the elderly remain in constant contact with their relatives, friends, carers and relevant service providers.
Our aim is to remove the stigma still attached to AAL solutions. We are doing so by making AAL technologies a normal element of Hager Group building automation systems, one which can be retrofitted in the home at any time and entirely according to individual needs. In the future, intelligent building technologies will be just as much a part of autonomous living in old age as physical limitations are a part of ageing. And by ensuring that our solutions are increasingly tailored to meet the needs of the elderly or those dependent on care, we are providing the opportunity for people to experience old age as a wonderful time of life – which is exactly how it should be.
