Hager Group employees donate to good causes

Did you know that not all of Hager Group’s charitable projects are initiated by the Peter und Luise Hager Foundation or beneficiary organisations? Sometimes the group’s employees get together and set up their own initiative.

One example is the salary donation scheme in Germany and France. It gives all employees the option to round down their monthly salary to the nearest euro and donate what is left over to charity. This allows them to give between one and 99 cents per month to charitable causes, the Foundation matches their donations.

At the end of 2018, the money raised by Hager Group employees in Germany went to food banks in Homburg, Pirmasens and Herzberg (near Uebigau) as well as the Balthasar hospice for children and teenagers in Olpe.

More than 1.5 million people now regularly use food banks in Germany, known as Tafeln. The Pirmasens Tafel currently supports 350 families every week; around 1,800 people. On days when the organisation distributes food, some 25 helpers are involved. “We move around two tonnes of food on a distribution day,” explains Gerhard Herrmann, board member of the Pirmasens Tafel.

In France, the money raised by employees went to two organisations at the end of 2018: the Association Solidarité Femmes Miléna in Grenoble, which supports female victims of violence, and the Association pour la Réadaptation Infantile in Strasbourg, which provides rehabilitation services for children.

The salary donation scheme was launched for Germany-based Hager Group employees in 2014. It was then rolled out in 2016 to sites in France. The number of participants continues to grow.
