Enlightening ideas from outside with Clive Woodward

At Hager Group we also working with and are inspired by people from outside of our company – hence Clive Woodward being invited to our 2018 Management Summer School and being one of our key interviewees for out 2019 Annual Report.

In his own words, Clive said, “…I always invited clever people who were successful at what they did. We had hedge fund managers and school headmasters; we showed them everything we did. Our deal was always the same: you can spend one or two days with me, but at the end I want at least one idea from you on what we could have done better.”

Although surprising, there is a straightforward almost perfect logic to inviting outsiders in to look at what we are doing. Clever people give clever inputs and they simply look at things from a different angle.

Talking of straightforward and yet completely different, Clive often mentions an Australian dentist-author who inspired him. Who would have thought that going to the dentist could be a happy experience? In his book the dentist emphasised the importance of building a happiness centered business and putting your team before your customers. When you put your own people first they in turn will make sure that customers are well taken care of. It’s a win-win situation.
